Vice President Bryan Lewis

Shropshire born Bryan read Modern History at Merton College, Oxford (where he sang in the Kodály Choir under Laszlo Heltay). His career began and finished in Leicester from assistant teacher at Alderman Newton's Boys' School to Head of The City of Leicester School. He plays the cello (learned thanks to the peripatetic music service in Shropshire) and played it in a Schools' Orchestra in the Royal Albert Hall under Sir Adrian Boult. For the past 50 years he has played chamber music with friends—but not for public enjoyment or endurance! An emeritus member of the local choir Cantamici, he retired before being asked to do so. He was Chairman of the erstwhile Leicester Recorded Music Society for 12 years. He is a committee member of the Leicester Friends of the Philharmonia.

Musical enjoyment is wide-ranging—Bach to Boulez—orchestral, opera, chamber, choral, solo.
